Chino (Charles Bronson), en tuff hästägare med indianblod i ådrorna, förälskar sig i den aristokratiska Catherine (Jill Ireland) som han har sålt en häst till. Catherines bror, Maral (Marcel Bozzuffi) , är emot deras förhållande och förbjuder dem att träffas. För att visa att han menar allvar, dödar han och hans män flera av Chinos hästar och ger Chino stryk, om och om igen, ända tills Chino fått nog och förklarar krig.
