Gary Bond and Donald Pleasence star in this psychological thriller directed by Ted Kotcheff. As part of the terms of his employment, teacher John Grant (Bond) is forced to work at a tiny school in Tiboonda, a remote town in the Australian outback, for two years. During the Christmas holidays he plans to travel to Sydney to see his girlfriend but he has to take a detour to the mining town of Bundanyabba first. As he gets to know the locals, including Clarence 'Doc' Tydon (Pleasence), he joins them in drinking and gambling but after he loses all of his money, he is stranded in the town. Caught up in their brutal way of life, can he escape or will he become one of them? The cast also includes Sylvia Kay, Chips Rafferty and Jack Thompson.
