Nicholas Ray directs this American noir starring Robert Taylor, Cyd Charisse and Lee J. Cobb, set in 1930s Chicago. Lawyer Thomas Farrell (Taylor) has made his name defending Chicago's biggest gangsters and has made connections with the criminal underworld.
