On his last day of freedom before joining the army, outsider Leszczyc tries to put his life in order. 'Hands Up!' (1981) also stars Skolimowski as Leszczyc. When he arrives at the facility, Jozef's memories of his past combine with his fantasies, bringing forth images of the ghetto, past girlfriends, colonial soldiers and his parents in happier times. Set during the Napoleonic Wars, in the Aragonese town of Saragossa, a French officer finds a book belonging to his grandfather, who was a captain in the Walloon Guard, and after the town is captured a fascinated Spanish officer translates the manuscript for him. The story follows young Spanish captain Alfonse van Worden (Zbigniew Cybulski) as he travels to Madrid through the haunted Sierra Morena mountains.
