In 'The Weeping Demon', a boy lost in the mountains comes across a horned man who explains that a holocaust has wiped out the human race. In 'Tokyo Twilight' (1957) graduate Akiko Sugiyama (Ineko Arima) is looking for her boyfriend, Kenji (Masami Taura), with whom she has a troubled relationship, when she meets a woman she believes may be her long-lost mother. Akiko's older sister, Takako (Setsuko Hara), tries to protect her from finding out about how their mother abandoned them but Akiko soon learns the truth with tragic consequences. In 'Woman of Tokyo' (1933) Chikako (Yoshiko Okada) works day and night to pay for her young brother, Ryoichi (Ureo Egawa)'s, university expenses. As the wage from her office job does not cover the costs, Chikako also works as a prostitute during the night, which Ryoichi is unaware of. When his girlfriend, whose brother is a policeman, finds out about Chikako's double life the situation spirals out of control. In 'Early Spring' (1956) office worker Shoji Sugiyama (Ryô Ikebe) is bored with his marriage to Masako (Chikage Awashima) and embarks on an affair with flirtatious colleague Kaneko (Keiko Kishi). In 'Record of a Tenement Gentleman' (1947) Kohei (Hôhi Aoki) follows fortune teller Tashiro (Chishû Ryû) home after he becomes separated from his father while visiting Tokyo. Tashiro and his friends are struggling in the aftermath of the war but Kohei's brief presence in their lives changes their perspective on life. The silent drama 'Dragnet Girl' (1933) follows Tokiko (Kinuyo Tanaka), a typist, and her boyfriend Joji (Jôji Oka), a small-time gangster. When she realises that Joji is attracted to another woman, her priorities change, but will she be able to find the redemption she seeks? Finally, in 'A Hen in the Wind' (1948) Tokiko (Tanaka) awaits her husband's return from the war. Barely able to make ends meet, when her four-year-old son becomes sick, she is unable to pay for his care. In 'Maborosi' (1995) Yumiko (Makiko Esumi) is newly married with a young baby but when tragedy strikes and her husband Ikuo (Tadanobu Asano) is killed in an apparent suicide, she is deeply troubled by her loss. Despite remarrying and moving to the coast, the death of Ikuo continues to haunt her as she struggles to find meaning in the world. In 'After Life' (1998) the dead arrive in limbo and are invited to select one memory that they wish to carry with them to the afterlife. Over the following week, the recently deceased think back over their lives, looking for the moment that meant the most to them. In 'Nobody Knows' (2004) 12-year-old Akira (Yûya Yagira) wakes up to find a note from his mother which includes some money and instructions about looking after his three younger siblings while she is away. The children cope well to begin with, helping each other with the housework, and Akira ensures that the bills are paid. However, when their mother fails to return after several weeks, the children are forced to deal with an increasingly chaotic situation as Akira tries to prevent their landlord from finding out the truth. Finally, in 'Still Walking' (2008), middle-aged art restorer Ryota (Hiroshi Abe) and his sister Chinami (You) return to their childhood home with their own families for a gathering to mark the 15th anniversary of the death of their older brother who drowned while saving another boy's life. As the family reconnect over the course of one summer day, they continue to struggle to come to terms with their loss and so tensions increase between Ryota and his father Kyohei (Yoshio Harada).<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / Box Set</i>
