With his act involving breaking a metal chain wrapped around his chest, Zampano attempts to incorporate Gelsomina into his routine by teaching her to perform a drum roll as part of his introduction. However, when the pair join up with a small travelling circus, fellow performer Il Matto (Richard Basehart) soon questions the way Zampano treats Gelsomina, leaving her facing a number of tough choices as she contemplates her future. The death of Pietro's father Giovanni (Filippo Timi) brings the two men back together and they decide to honour Giovanni and rekindle their friendship by building a cabin in the mountains. Vittoria (Monica Vitti) is a young woman who breaks up with her lover Ricardo (Francisco Rabal), a bookish intellectual, and instead takes up with brash stockbroker Piero (Alain Delon). However, there are still emotional ties between Vittoria and Ricardo. The final breakdown of Vittoria's emotional state is symbolically mirrored by Antonioni's montage of a deserted, dying city.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray</i>

In 'The Night of the Shooting Stars' (1982) a woman tells her sleeping son a story from her childhood during the war. In the summer of 1944, German forces are retreating out of Italy and leaving devastation in their wake. Her town is threatened with destruction, but if wishes are made on the night of San Lorenzo when shooting stars are seen, they may come true. She survives the night and wishes to pass this knowledge to her child. 'Padre Padrone' (1977) follows Gavino (Saverio Marconi), a young boy whose tyrannical father wants him to become a shepherd. Determined to attend university, Gavino finally escapes his isolated existence and becomes a linguistics professor. Finally, 'Kaos' (1984) consists of four parts based on short stories by Luigi Pirandello which explore different aspects of life in 19th century Sicily. The stories are: 'The Other Son', 'Moon Sickness', 'The Jar' and 'Requiem'.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray</i>

It is a portrait of an old man, living out his last days alone and abandoned by a post-war Italian society. Non-professional Carlo Battisti plays Umberto Domenico Ferrari, a retired civil servant with no friends, family or prospects to speak of, only his dog Flike for company. Umberto lives only on his meagre pension and in dire surroundings with a grasping landlady. He has fallen behind on his rent and after many indignities finally reaches a point where suicide seems like the only answer. However he puts those thoughts aside when he realises that Flike would be left to the streets if he was not there.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray</i>
