In 'The Conjuring 2' (2016), following a series of unsettling events at a home in Enfield, London, Ed and Lorraine come to the aid of single mother Peggy Hodgson (Frances O'Connor) who claims her two daughters are being tormented by an evil spirit. Soon after their arrival the Warrens begin experiencing terrifying phenomena themselves, with the demonic entity seemingly intent on forcing them out. Plagued by hideous visions, physical attacks and even possession, the couple become embroiled in a deadly fight to survive as they attempt to conclude their investigation. In 'Annabelle: Creation' (2017), after the death of their young daughter, dollmaker Samuel Mullins (Anthony LaPaglia) and his wife Esther (Miranda Otto) invite a group of six girls and nun Sister Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman) to stay in their farmhouse after their orphanage is closed down. However, it soon transpires that the couple did this to atone for inadvertently inviting a demon into their home after mistaking it for the spirit of their daughter Annabelle. Now occupying one of Samuel's dolls, the spirit proceeds to terrorise the girls as it tries to claim their souls. 'The Nun' (2018) is set in 1952 when the Vatican sends Father Burke (Demián Bichir) and Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) to investigate the mysterious death of a nun at the Cârta Monastery in Romania. As they work to uncover the monastery's secrets, they realise that a powerful demonic entity is at work. Can they defeat it and escape with their souls intact or will they fall victim to its evil? In 'Annabelle Comes Home' (2019), Ed and Lorraine think they have finally contained the cursed Annabelle doll when they bring it home, have it blessed by a priest and lock it inside a case made of sacred glass. However, when the couple depart for the night, leaving their ten-year-old daughter Judy (Mckenna Grace) with babysitter Mary Ellen (Madison Iseman) and her friend Daniela (Katie Sarife), Annabelle's spirit is released. As she unleashes other spirits that have been trapped by the Warrens, chaos ensues as the three girls are tormented by the spirits and must fight to contain them once more. 'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It' (2021) is set in 1980s Connecticut where the Warrens come to the aid of Arne Cheyenne Johnson (Ruairi O'Connor), a young man who claims to have been possessed by a demonic spirit and is accused of murdering his landlord. Believing the Johnson family was cursed by a witch, the Warrens are tested to their limits as they set out to prove their theory while attempting to convince the court of Arne's innocence. In 'The Nun 2' (2023), four years after her experiences at the Cârta Monastery in Romania, Sister Irene is now living a quiet life in Italy but she continues to experience troubling visions. When a disturbing death occurs in Tarascon, France, Irene is sent to investigate. She soon realises that the demon Valak (Bonnie Aarons) is once again responsible, leaving her with no choice but to face it once more and fight to prevent anyone else from falling victim to its evil. Finally, in 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' (2025), the Warrens have retired from active investigations due to Ed's worsening heart condition. However, they are soon called upon to battle a powerful demonic presence they have encountered before which has now returned to torment the Smurl family.
