After realising that he is not able to return to the future, he seeks the assistance of a younger Doc but inadvertently disrupts the early stages of his parents' relationship, which places his entire existence in jeopardy. In 'Back to the Future Part II' (1989) Marty and Doc Brown must travel 30 years into the future to prevent Marty's son from going to jail. Meanwhile, when Biff Tannen steals the DeLorean so that he can return to the 1950s and make his younger self rich, he creates an alternate timeline in which Marty's father has been murdered... Finally, in 'Back to the Future Part III' (1990), Marty travels back in time to 1885 to rescue Doc Brown from a fatal showdown with Biff Tannen's great-grandfather. Morbius' obsession with discovering the secrets of the underground cities of the Krell and its long-dead inhabitants led him to kill all of his fellow explorers. However, his research is once again threatened with the arrival of another expedition, whose leader, Commander Adams (Nielson), is not deterred by the doctor's efforts to keep him away from either his adopted home or his daughter. Gunned down by a street gang, the Doctor is rushed to hospital, where exploratory surgery by Dr Grace Holloway (Daphne Ashbrook) triggers a regeneration into the Eighth Doctor (McGann).
