When the passage behind them collapses, the group are trapped in an unexplored cave system. As they attempt to locate a way out, they discover a den of human and animal bones and are attacked by a race of murderous humanoid creatures who have adapted to live in the darkness. Desperately fighting to survive, will any of them escape? In the sequel, 'The Descent: Part 2' (2009), after Sarah Carter (Shauna MacDonald) is rescued from the Appalachian caves where several of her friends perished, she is made to go back and help to try and locate any other survivors. Sheriff Vaines (Gavan O'Herlihy) is not wholly convinced by Sarah's version of events, especially with regard to the creatures she claims she and her friends encountered in the caves, and so he insists on the expedition. After an underground party leaves all but partially deaf Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick) dead, she stumbles upon a large trunk before she can make her way out. Inside the trunk is Arkin who warns Elena to run for her life, but before she can escape she has an accident resulting in a broken arm, leaving her incapacitated. Arkin does manage to escape and is hospitalised for his injuries, but shortly after his recovery he is approached by Elena's father (Christopher McDonald) and asked to return to The Collector's warehouse with a group of mercenaries in an attempt to rescue his daughter.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

Mary is not an ordinary child; she is a mathematical genius capable of calculating large sums in her head. As per his late sister's wishes, Frank intends to give Mary as normal a life as possible, enrolling her in a mainstream school to attend regular classes with children her age. When Frank's mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) finds out just what her granddaughter can do however, she forms her own plan for Mary's future and sets about obtaining full custody so that she can control Mary's education. As he faces losing Mary to his formidable mother, Frank must fight with all his might to keep Mary in the life that she deserves. Former FBI profiler Will Graham (Petersen), who specialised in catching serial killers, is brought out of early retirement to assist in the hunt for a killer known as the Tooth Fairy (Tom Noonan). Graham's tactic is to enter the mindset of the criminal he is pursuing but this takes a significant emotional toll. Meanwhile, he consults with former psychiatrist and serial killer Hannibal Lecktor (Brian Cox), who is now in prison and whose attack on Graham led to his previous retirement. When it becomes apparent that Lecktor and the Tooth Fairy have been in contact with each other, Graham realises that his family is in danger.
