Set in Middle-Earth 60 years before events in 'The Lord of the Rings', 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' (2012) follows the adventures of Hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who, at the instigation of the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen), suddenly finds himself co-opted into joining a company of 13 Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) to help reclaim the Dwarves' lost kingdom of the Lonely Mountain from the clutches of a dragon. After setting out on their quest from the safety of Bag End, the band of travellers soon find themselves pitted against a range of strange and fearsome opponents, in addition to a small, slimy creature known simply as Gollum (Andy Serkis). In 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' (2013), while Gandalf heads south on his own, Bilbo, Thorin and the Dwarves enter the treacherous Mirkwood Forest on their way to the mountain. When they reach Lake-town Bilbo has to perform the role he was assigned at the start of the quest - to find a secret door that will lead him to the lair of Smaug the dragon (voice of Benedict Cumberbatch). In the final instalment, 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' (2014), Bilbo, Thorin and the other Dwarves have unintentionally released Smaug from the Lonely Mountain and endangered the residents of Lake-town. Bilbo has to make a difficult decision when Thorin puts his desire to find the royal jewel Arkenstone before his loyalty to his friends. Meanwhile, Gandalf discovers that the evil Sauron has returned, commanding a horde of Orcs to attack the Lonely Mountain. Bilbo and his friends must fight for their survival as five armies meet in battle. However, he and his fellow intern Sophie Pettingel (Wilde) soon begin to realise that the CEO, Humphrey Wells (Christoph Waltz), has his own agenda, which is disrupting the magical world. In 'Spider-Man - Homecoming' (2017), sequel to 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016), a young Peter Parker (Holland) begins to realise the full extent of his powers as Spider-Man. As a teenager struggling with everyday turmoil including school, homework and a crush on a girl who's out of his league, Peter also has to deal with the fact that he is Spider-Man and has the ability to change the world. When he meets with Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), a seasoned superhero who tries to pass on some words of wisdom, Peter is told that his priority should be working hard at school to get good grades, not donning his Spider-Man suit and fighting crime, but for Peter the urge to stop bad guys is just too overwhelming and he tries to find a way to do both. The cast also includes Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture, Michael Chernus as Phineas Mason aka Tinkerer and Marisa Tomei as Peter's Aunt May. In 'Spider-Man - Far from Home' (2019), following on from the events of 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019), Peter Parker takes a much-needed break with his friends. As they select their avatars to play the game, they get sucked into the screen and find themselves living the jungle game as Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Franklin 'Moose' Finbar (Kevin Hart), Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black) and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan). As they get further into the jungle they learn that their only way home is to finish the game, and to finish the game they must survive everything the jungle throws at them. In 'Jumanji: The Next Level '(2019) Bethany, Fridge and Martha go to see Spencer at his grandpa Eddie (Danny DeVito)'s house and discover that Spencer repaired the 'Jumanji' game and appears to have been sucked back in. Deciding that they need to save him, the friends agree to go into the game, but before they can select their avatars, Eddie and his friend Milo (Danny Glover) also get pulled in. Discovering that they both share creative talents, (Jesse loves to draw, while Leslie is a keen storyteller), they invent the magical kingdom of Terabithia, a fantasy world reached by swinging on a rope over a stream near their homes. In his 20s, while exploring the nature of his origins, Clark (Henry Cavill) meets and later becomes romantically involved with Lois Lane (Amy Adams), an inquisitive reporter from 'The Daily Planet' newspaper. When an evil force threatens the Earth and its inhabitants, Clark resumes his true identity as a superhero and fights to save the planet. In 'Batman V Superman - Dawn of Justice' (2016), concerned that Superman (Cavill)'s powers may get out of hand if he isn't kept under control, vigilante Batman (Ben Affleck) leaves Gotham City for Metropolis where the two heroes find themselves in a head-to-head battle. Once released from Belle Reve penitentiary, the squad, which includes Deadshot (Will Smith), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Boomerang (Jai Courtney), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Slipknot (Adam Beach), The Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), must carry out life-threatening covert operations, under the command of leader Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), to protect the planet from unseen evils. Finally, in 'Wonder Woman' (2017) young princess Diana (Gal Gadot) has been trained in the fighting ways of her fellow Amazon warriors on the island of Themyscira, despite the best wishes of her mother Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) who sought to shield her from combat. As she begins to learn the true extent of her powers, Diana and her fellow Amazons are thrust into battle when American pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crash-lands just off the shores of Themyscira, pursued by the might of the Germany military. While exploring the palace, Marie-Josèphe discovers that a mermaid (Fan Bingbing) is being held captive in a pool beneath the building. She learns of the mermaid's healing powers and assumes that she is there to provide care for ill citizens, but the truth is revealed to be a much darker affair.
