Stereogum has called the band’s music “fantastically immersive” and Paste cosigns their “recipe for a rock song that’ll stick with you long after it’s over.” Friends since childhood, the LA-based sixpiece’s New record is an an inventive blend of modern day Americana, shapeshifting indie and ultimately an inspired passion project from six lifelong friends who have made a record that sounds bigger than themselves. In the same way artists like Wilco or MJ Lenderman have turned classic songwriting on its head, the album both acknowledges and breaks with tradition, and is an ultimately hopeful elegy of what it means to confront change and find beauty in a precarious world. Meg Duffy of Hand Habits wrote new album Blue Reminder as a reaction to what one does when happiness actually comes knocking. After years of collaborating and touring with musicians like Kevin Morby and Perfume Genius, Duffy still draws on the solace of that community, but takes center stage, with their most assured, classic songwriting yet against a backstop of nuanced instrumentation and moving testimony. A Man For All Seasons is the long-awaited return of Insecure Men, the avant-pop band led by Saul Adamczewski and with a rotating cast of collaborators including Ben Romans-Hopcraft, the Childhood multi-instrumentalist who went to primary school with Adamczewski. It was recorded at Konk Studios in North London as trees blossomed in Spring this year. The album moves from junkshop pop to luxuriant mid-60s soulfulness and mournful cuts where heartbreak manifests in the form of wintry and fragile country songs. It's an album of hope, rich in song and stories and inner truth. Brilliant songwriter, unlikely auteur, serious maverick: a man for all seasons.
