In 'Superman - The Movie' (1978), a baby from the planet Krypton develops superhuman powers under Earth's yellow sun. As an adult (Christopher Reeve) he dons red cape and pants, and flies across the world doing good deeds, whilst also hiding behind the alias of mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent. Fellow journalist Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) falls for the muscleman in tights without realising he and her bumbling colleague are one and the same. This special-effects laden adaptation of the DC Comics series also features Marlon Brando in a highly-paid cameo and Gene Hackman as evil mastermind criminal Lex Luthor. Director Richard Lester provides a slightly tongue-in-cheek sequel with 'Superman 2' (1980), in which our hero continues to outstrip speeding bullets and leap tall buildings in a single bound, this time while preventing three arch-enemies from space from achieving world domination. In 'Superman 3' (1983), synthetic Kryptonite turns the normally upstanding Superman into a low-grade Supersleaze, clearing the path for a megalomaniac tycoon (Robert Vaughn) and a computer whiz (Richard Pryor) to take over the world. In 'Superman 4: The Quest for Peace' (1987), Superman, moved by a schoolboy's request, determines to rid the world of nuclear weapons. However, his arch enemy Lex Luthor, now a nuclear arms entrepreneur, clones Nuclear Man (Mark Pillow) from a strand of the hero's hair and the two mighty men battle it out in space. Finally, 'Superman Returns' (2006) is a sequel set after the events of 'Superman 2'. After eliminating General Zod and the other Kryptonian arch-villains, Ursa and Non, Superman (Brandon Routh) leaves Earth to search for his former home planet, Krypton. When he arrives he finds nothing but remnants and returns to Earth. Upon his return, he finds a Metropolis that doesn't need him anymore. Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) is engaged to a relative of his boss (James Marsden), and to make matters worse, his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) has contrived a plot to build a continent using the crystals of Krypton that will wipe out most of North America. Superman must again race against time to stop the psychopathic Luthor before it's too late.

Typ: DVD / Box Set

In 'For Me and My Gal' (1942), performer Harry Palmer (Gene Kelly) deliberately injures his hand to avoid being drafted into the army. He starts a vaudeville act with fellow performer Jo Hayden (Garland) and they become determined to play The Palace. In 'Harvey Girls' (1945), mail-order bride Susan Bradley (Garland) heads out West and ends up working as a waitress for the Fred Harvey chain of restaurants and hotels. The Harvey house faces some stiff competition from the old-fashioned saloon over the road, but the saloon's gambling owner Ned Trent (John Hodiak) takes a shine to Susan. This draws the displeasure of Trent's long-time sweetheart Em (Angela Lansbury) which causes a clash between the girls. 'In the Good Old Summertime' (1949) is a musical remake of 'The Shop Around the Corner' (1940), set in a Chicago music store. Sales girl Veronica Fisher (Garland) corresponds through an anonymous pen pal service with Andrew (Van Johnson), who turns out to be the manager she detests. 'Love Finds Andy Hardy' (1938) stars Mickey Rooney as Andy, a man frantically trying to juggle two women, Polly (Ann Rutherford) and Cynthia (Lana Turner) at the same time. Could Betsy (Garland) be the one to help him out of his dilemma? 'A Star Is Born' (1954) is a remake of the 1937 classic, this time as a musical about a Hollywood couple going through bad times. Would-be singer Esther Blodgett (Garland) finds herself taken under the wing of fading star Norman Maine (James Mason) when she saves him from making a drunken fool of himself. Changing her name to Vicki Lester, Esther becomes a star, and is soon married to Norman. However, as Vicki's star rises, so Norman's falls. In 'The Wizard of Oz' (1939), a tornado whisks Dorothy (Garland) and her house from Kansas to Munchkin City, squashing the Wicked Witch of the East upon landing. The Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) vows revenge, while Dorothy sets off on the yellow brick road to see the Wizard of Oz (Frank Morgan), hoping he can tell her how to get home. On the way she makes friends with a scarecrow (Ray Bolger), a tin man (Jack Haley) and a cowardly lion (Bert Lahr) - all of whom have specific reasons for wanting to meet the magical Wizard. With the Wicked Witch out to get her, will Dorothy ever get home again? Finally, in 'Ziegfeld Girl' (1941), former elevator operator Sheila (Turner), wife Sandra (Hedy Lamarr), and a vaudeville performer Susan (Garland) are three women following different paths in life, yet they soon share one dream: to become a Ziegfeld Girl.

Typ: DVD / Box Set

Set in Middle Earth 60 years before events in 'The Lord of the Rings', 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' (2012) follows the adventures of hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who, at the instigation of the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen), suddenly finds himself co-opted into joining a company of 13 Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) to help reclaim the dwarves' lost kingdom of the Lonely Mountain from the clutches of a dragon. After setting out on their quest from the safety of Bag End, the band of travellers soon find themselves pitted against a range of strange and fearsome opponents, in addition to a small, slimy creature known simply as Gollum (Andy Serkis). In 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' (2013), while Gandalf heads south on his own, Bilbo, Thorin and the dwarves enter the treacherous Mirkwood Forest on their way to the mountain. When they reach Lake-town Bilbo has to perform the role he was assigned at the start of the quest - to find a secret door that will lead him to the lair of Smaug the dragon (voice of Benedict Cumberbatch). In the final instalment, 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' (2014), Bilbo, Thorin and the other dwarves have unintentionally released Smaug from the Lonely Mountain and endangered the residents of Lake-town. Bilbo has to make a difficult decision when Thorin puts his desire to find the royal jewel Arkenstone before his loyalty to his friends. Meanwhile, Gandalf discovers that the evil Sauron has returned, commanding a horde of Orcs to attack the Lonely Mountain. Bilbo and his friends must fight for their survival as five armies meet in battle. In 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' (2001) Frodo (Elijah Wood) is a hobbit living in the Shire, a quiet, peaceful part of Middle Earth. When it turns out that his elderly relative Bilbo (Ian Holm) is harbouring the ultimate Ring of Power and the evil Nazgul riders of Sauron are coming to find it, Frodo is entrusted by wizard Gandalf to deliver the Ring out of the Shire without it falling into their hands. Frodo leaves the Shire aided by his cousins Merry (Dominic Monaghan), Pippin (Billy Boyd) and trusty friend Sam Gamgee (Sean Astin), but they soon realise that the agents of Mordor are everywhere and that their trip is far from over. Once they reach the Elvish realm of Rivendell the hobbits form part of the anti-Sauron fellowship, which includes Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Boromir (Sean Bean), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) and Gandalf. Together they must battle across Middle Earth to destroy the Ring by casting it into Mount Doom, the fiery chasm in the centre of Mordor. In 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' (2002) the Fellowship of the Ring has now divided and Sam and Frodo are lost in the hills of Emyn Muil. They are also being followed by Gollum, a creature who promises to help them travel to Mordor. Meanwhile Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli search for the hobbits Merry and Pippin in the Kingdom of Rohan, which is currently being attacked by Saruman's orc armies. Gandalf returns as Gandalf the White to remind Aragorn of his destiny to unite the people of Rohan with Gondor. Whilst the Fellowship is not travelling together they must unite against the powerful forces coming from the Two Towers: Orthanc Tower in Isengard where Saruman has bred a deadly army of 10,000, and Sauron's fortress at Barad-dûr. Finally, in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' (2003), Gandalf manages to rally Gondor's fallen army with the help of King Theoden of Rohan (Bernard Hill) for the biggest battle in the history of Middle Earth. Meanwhile, Aragorn finally faces up to his noble responsibilities. Although outnumbered, Gandalf's army are determined to keep Sauron distracted in order to enable Frodo to complete his quest to destroy the Ring by throwing it into the fires of Mount Doom.

Typ: DVD / Box Set

In 'Strangers on a Train' (1951), Guy Haines (Farley Granger) and Bruno Antony (Robert Walker) meet by chance in a train carriage. After some idle chat in which it transpires that each man has someone in their lives they would like to dispose of, Bruno proposes that he kills Guy's wife, in return for Guy murdering Bruno's father. Guy is appalled, but when his wife is murdered he realises that Bruno is intent on carrying out the 'deal' whether Guy wants to or not. 'Stage Fright' (1950) is set in London's theatreland. On the run from the police, Jonathan Cooper (Richard Todd) takes refuge in the home of his former girlfriend, RADA student Eve Gill (Jane Wyman). Although Cooper has been spotted fleeing the scene of a murder, he insists that he is innocent. Eve believes his story, but knows that the police won't, so she decides to play detective herself. Marlene Dietrich co-stars as Charlotte Innwood, a seductive star of the stage whom Eve eventually pinpoints as the real murderer. In 'I Confess' (1953), Father Michael Logan (Montgomery Clift) faces a crisis of conscience when his caretaker, Otto Keller (O.E. Hasse), confesses to him that he has committed murder. Logan's dilemma intensifies when he himself comes under suspicion of the killing by police inspector Larrue (Karl Malden). Should Logan break with the sanctity of the confessional to prove his own innocence, or be hanged for a crime he did not commit? Hitchcock keeps us guessing till the very end... In 'Dial M For Murder' (1954), an adaptation of Frederick Knott's successful stage play, former tennis pro Tony Wendice (Ray Milland) hatches a cunning plot to get rid of his socialite wife, Margot (Grace Kelly), when he discovers that she has been unfaithful. Wendice blackmails a corrupt former schoolmate into murdering Margot, but the fellow bungles the job, and Margot, having killed her would-be assailant in self-defence, then finds herself under suspicion of premeditated murder. In 'The Wrong Man' (1957), musician Manny Balestrero (Henry Fonda) finds himself imprisoned after being wrongly accused of theft. Allowed out on bail, Manny employs the services of lawyer Frank O'Connor (Anthony Quayle) in his defence, but the strain proves too much for Manny's wife, Rose (Vera Miles), who begins to crack up. Hitchcock follows police procedure rigidly in his account of Manny's arrest, interrogation and imprisonment, based on actual events. In 'North by Northwest' (1959), a masterful mix of comedy and suspense, advertising executive Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) is lunching in a restaurant with his mother when he mistakenly answers a page for one George Kaplan. He soon finds himself on the run across the country, being pursued by enemies of the government who are convinced that he is a secret agent. He finds a friend in Eve Kendall (Eve Marie Saint), who helps conceal him during a perilous train journey - but soon discovers that she is not all she seems.

Typ: DVD / Box Set

In 'The Conjuring' (2013), when the Perron family experience strange goings-on at their farmhouse, they enlist the help of paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). As they investigate, however, the couple begin to realise that, despite their expertise, they may not be equipped to deal with such a violent and foreboding evil. In 'Annabelle' (2014) Mia and John Gordon (Annabelle Wallis and Ward Horton) are terrorised by supernatural forces when John thinks he has found the perfect gift for his wife and unborn child, a rare vintage doll dressed in a white wedding dress named Annabelle. The family's joy however is abruptly ended when they are invaded and attacked in their home by members of a Satanic cult. The terror of that night is nothing compared to what follows as the cult conjure an entity which takes over Annabelle and transforms her into a malevolent force of evil. In 'The Conjuring 2' (2016) Ed and Lorraine are called in to investigate a series of unsettling events at a home in Enfield, London. The pair come to the aid of single mother Peggy Hodgson (Frances O'Connor), after she claims her two daughters are being tormented by an evil spirit. Not long after moving in to the house, the Warrens begin to experience some terrifying phenomena of their own, with the demonic entity seemingly intent on forcing them out. In 'Annabelle - Creation' (2017), after the death of their young daughter, doll maker Samuel Mullins (Anthony LaPaglia) and his wife Esther (Miranda Otto) invite a group of orphans and nun Sister Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman) to stay in their farmhouse after their own orphanage closes down. However, it soon transpires that the couple have welcomed the young girls to atone for inadvertently inviting a demon into their home, after mistaking it for the spirit of their daughter Annabelle. Now occupying one of Samuel's dolls the spirit proceeds to terrorise the girls as it tries to claim their souls. 'The Nun' (2018), set in 1952, follows Catholic priest Father Burke (Demián Bichir) and young nun Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) as they are dispatched by the Vatican to investigate the mysterious death of a nun at the Cârta Monastery in Romania. Upon arrival, they are met with a hostile reception as the malevolent entities occupying the monastery reveal themselves. As they work to uncover the secrets of the order, will they escape with their souls intact or will they be the next victims of the demonic nun? In 'Annabelle Comes Home' (2019) renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine think they have finally contained the cursed Annabelle doll when they bring it home, have it blessed by a priest and lock it in a case of sacred glass. However, when the couple depart for the night, leaving their ten-year-old daughter Judy (Mckenna Grace) alone with teenage babysitters Mary Ellen (Madison Iseman) and Daniela (Katie Sarife), Annabelle continues to cause terror and acts as a beacon for the Warren's treasure trove of cursed artefacts, which, once awakened, set out to claim Judy's soul. Finally, in 'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It' (2021), set in 1980s Connecticut, Ed and Lorraine Warren come to the aid of Arne Cheyenne Johnson (Ruairi O'Connor), a young man accused of murdering his landlord who claims to have been possessed by a demonic spirit. Believing the Johnson family was cursed by a witch, the Warrens are tested to their limits as they set out to prove their supernatural theory while attempting to convince the court of Arne's innocence.

Typ: DVD / Box Set
