In 'Iron Man' (2008) Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) is the billionaire owner of Stark Industries, a corporation that specialises in weapons development. When Tony is kidnapped by terrorists in Afghanistan, he is made to construct a devastating weapon. Instead, however, he builds a high-tech suit of armour and uses it to escape from captivity. When Stark discovers a conspiracy that could have serious repercussions for the whole world, he uses his new invention to try and stop the villains and save the world. In 'The Incredible Hulk' (2008) scientist Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) searches for the cure to his life-transforming alter ego. Scouring the globe, searching for the antidote that will prevent him from changing into The Hulk, Banner is forced to keep a low profile, lest the military authorities that seek to exploit his powers finally catch up with him. In an ironic twist, he longs to be with the only woman he has ever loved, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), who just happens to be the daughter of his chief military adversary, General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross (William Hurt). Having finally decided to return to civilisation, Banner discovers that there's an even bigger and more dangerous enemy on the block - The Abomination (Tim Roth). A primal beast even more powerful than The Hulk, this new foe, the result of a foreign agent being exposed to an even larger dose of the radiation that created The Hulk, is unable to revert back to human form. Now the stage is set for a titanic battle of the two heavyweights, with New York the setting for the ultimate showdown. In 'Iron Man 2' (2010) Downey Jr reprises his role as Tony Stark, the billionaire industrialist also known as armoured superhero Iron Man. With the world now aware of his dual identity, Stark faces pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military. With his secretary Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) by his side, Tony fights to protect his suit by forging new alliances and confronting powerful new enemies. 'Thor' (2011), moving between present-day Earth and the fantastic realm of Asgard, tells the story of the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior god whose reckless actions rekindle an ancient feud among the deities. As a punishment, Thor is cast out of Asgard and forced to live on Earth among humankind. There, he falls in love with scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and, as the darkest forces of Asgard are sent to invade Earth, he eventually learns what it means to be a real hero. In 'Captain America: The First Avenger' (2011) Chris Evans stars as Steve Rogers, a volunteer for a top-secret military research project who signed up after being deemed physically unfit to enlist in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. The experiment transforms him into super-soldier Captain America, who - along with sidekick Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) - takes on the mighty power of Hitler's henchman Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). Finally, in 'Avengers Assemble' (2012), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and the international S.H.I.E.L.D. agency must act swiftly to form The Avengers, a team of ultimate superhero defenders, when Earth comes under attack from Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and his multi-faceted army. In 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace' (1999) Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) embark upon a diplomatic mission to the planet Naboo. But when they are ambushed by Federation robots, they quickly realise that the negotiations are merely a decoy for a hostile invasion. Joining forces with Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best) and the Naboo Queen Amidala (Natalie Portman), the Jedi manage to escape and journey to the trade planet of Tatooine, where Qui-Gon meets a young slave boy named Anakin (Jake Lloyd), whom he identifies as a potentially powerful Jedi. In 'Star Wars: Attack of the Clones' (2002) Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) disobeys the strictures of his Jedi training, embarking on a forbidden affair with Padmé (Portman) while his teacher Obi-Wan Kenobi's investigation of assassination attempts against a senator leads him to the distant planet of Kamino and into the middle of a separatist plot which brings the Galactic Republic to the brink of civil war. In 'Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith' (2005), as the Clone Wars rage on, the rift between Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and the Jedi Council widens with young Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker caught in the middle, his allegiances torn. Seduced by promises of power and the temptations of the dark side, he pledges himself to the evil Darth Sidious and the Sith Order, becoming Darth Vader. Together, the Sith Lords set in motion a plot of revenge against the Jedi, in attempt to destroy them all. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi tries to turn his former apprentice back to the light side, leading to a climactic lightsaber battle that will shape the fate of the galaxy forever. In 'Star Wars: A New Hope' (1977), set 19 years after the formation of the Galactic Empire, the Death Star is nearing completion and will soon be capable of destroying planets. When Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), leader of the Rebel Alliance, discovers the Empire's plans, she is captured and taken to the Death Star. Meanwhile, farm boy Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) dreams of becoming a pilot. On his travels he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alex Guinness) who vows to teach Luke how to be a Jedi. When they discover that the princess has been kidnapped, they team up with smuggler Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Wookie Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) and droids C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) in a bid to rescue her and ultimately aid the rebellion. In 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back' (1980) the Rebel Alliance flees the power of Darth Vader (Dave Prowse/voice of James Earl Jones) and finds refuge on the ice planet Hoth, but their base does not stay safe for long. In 'Star Wars: Return of the Jedi' (1983) the Rebel Alliance continue to battle the evil Galactic Empire, as the ruthless Palpatine sets plans in motion to build a second Death Star with the purpose of wiping out the Rebels. In 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' (2015) Han Solo and Princess Leia are joined by scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley), former stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) and X-wing pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) as they face powerful forces from the dark side in the form of First Order commander Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and his master Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis). In 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' (2017) the Resistance continues to be relentlessly pursued by the First Order following the destruction of Starkiller Base, leading Rey to seek out Jedi Master Luke Skywalker for help and guidance. Finally, in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' (2019) an evil force has reawakened, and the fractured Resistance unites to make a final stand in their battle with the First Order.
