After realising that he is not able to return to the future, he seeks the assistance of a younger Doc but inadvertently disrupts the early stages of his parents' relationship, which places his entire existence in jeopardy. In 'Back to the Future Part II' (1989) Marty and Doc Brown must travel 30 years into the future to prevent Marty's son from going to jail. Meanwhile, when Biff Tannen steals the DeLorean so that he can return to the 1950s and make his younger self rich, he creates an alternate timeline in which Marty's father has been murdered... Finally, in 'Back to the Future Part III' (1990), Marty travels back in time to 1885 to rescue Doc Brown from a fatal showdown with Biff Tannen's great-grandfather.
