While there he meets and falls for a Frenchwoman, Jeanne Martinez (Micheline Presle), who joins the movement. In the meantime he searches for Ruth but discovers she has since become involved with guerilla leader Julio Fontana (Alejandro Rey), believing that her husband had been killed.
