Desperately fighting to survive, will any of them escape? In the sequel, 'The Descent: Part 2' (2009), after Sarah Carter (Shauna MacDonald) is rescued from the Appalachian caves where several of her friends perished, she is made to go back and help to try and locate any other survivors. Sheriff Vaines (Gavan O'Herlihy) is not wholly convinced by Sarah's version of events, especially with regard to the creatures she claims she and her friends encountered in the caves, and so he insists on the expedition. Abandoned as a baby in his small Irish hometown and aware from a very early age that he is different, Patrick survives this harsh environment with the aid of his wit and charm, plus a sweet refusal to let anyone or anything change who he is.
