In 'Star Trek: Generations' (1994) Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) reluctantly comes out of retirement to attend the launch of the USS Enterprise-B. When the ship attempts to rescue two cargo ships trapped in a strange electrical field, part of its structure is shorn away, taking Kirk with it. 78 years later, USS Enterprise-D captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) is mourning the deaths of his brother and nephew when he is called to investigate an attack on the Amagosa Observatory. The culprits are revealed to be the Klingons, allied with sinister El-Aurian scientist Dr Soran (Malcolm McDowell). Soran was amongst those rescued by the Enterprise-B, and is now desperate to return to the energy field known as the Nexus. When Picard himself enters the Nexus, a historic encounter takes place. In 'Star Trek: First Contact' (1996) Captain Jean-Luc Picard, once assimilated by the alien Borg, now senses that they are about to return. He is proved correct when the Collective engage the USS Enterprise-E in battle, only to escape through a temporal vortex into the Earth's past. Picard and his crew glimpse an alternative Earth which is dominated by the Borg and, in an attempt to find out how the Borg have altered the timeline, follow them back to the year 2063, one day before Zefram Cochrane (James Cromwell) made the first warp drive journey. It was this event that attracted the attention of some passing Vulcans and established Earth's first contact with alien life. While Riker (Jonathan Frakes) leads an away team to prevent the Borg from tampering with the Earth's history, Picard must repel a Borg invasion of the Enterprise. In 'Star Trek: Insurrection' (1998) a Federation team are unobtrusively observing life on the remarkable world of Ba'ku, where 600 peaceful inhabitants enjoy the planet's youth-preserving qualities. However, forces within the alliance want to repatriate the population so that the planet's resources can be intensively exploited. Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) leads his crew in an effort to protect Ba'ku's residents and thereby honour the Federation's Prime Directive: non-intervention in the development of other civilizations. Finally, in 'Star Trek: Nemesis' (2002), when Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise discover a disassembled prototype of their android colleague Data (Brent Spiner) on a distant planet, they take the parts back to the Enterprise and attempt to put them back together. Meanwhile, news arrives that the new Romulan leader Shinzon (Tom Hardy) wants to restore relations with the Federation and Picard is sent to negotiate. In 'Mission: Impossible' (1996) Impossible Mission Force agent Ethan Hunt is hunted by his own organisation after an assignment in Prague goes wrong. Going to ground, Hunt enlists the help of two discredited agents to track down the real villain of the piece, a quest that takes him to the heart of CIA operations. In 'Mission: Impossible 2' (2000) Hunt is tasked with tracking down renegade agent Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) who has stolen the only known supply of Bellophron - the antidote to man-made virus Chimera. Hunt enlists the help of Ambrose's ex-girlfriend, Nyah Nordoff-Hall (Thandie Newton) and, although the pair fall in love, Nyah agrees to return to Ambrose in order to gain information. However, Ambrose now intends to release an epidemic of Chimera in order to sell Bellophron to the highest bidder and when he becomes suspicious of Nyah he decides to use her as a guinea pig. In 'Mission: Impossible 3' (2006) Hunt confronts the toughest villain he's ever faced - Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman), an international weapons and information provider with no remorse and no conscience. Hunt assembles his team - his old friend Luther Strickell (Ving Rhames), transportation expert Declan (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), background operative Zhen (Maggie Q) and fresh recruit Lindsey (Keri Russell) - to travel the globe pursuing Davian and rescue Hunt's love, Julia (Michelle Monaghan). In 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' (2011), when the Kremlin is bombed by terrorists, the IMF is implicated and all its team members instantaneously denied access by the United States government. Finally, in 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout' (2018), when an IMF operation goes badly wrong, Ethan finds himself isolated and unsure of who to trust as he attempts to complete his original mission. In 'Transformers' (2007) a battle rages between two camps of an alien race from the planet Cybertron - the Autobots and the evil Decepticons. In an effort to prevent the Decepticons from gaining possession of the Allspark, a cube with the capacity to grant infinite power, the Autobots managed to smuggle the object to Earth, where they secretly hid it. Now, hundreds of years later, with the Decepticons searching for the cube, the Autobots enlist the help of young earthling Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) to help foil the Decepticons' plans for world domination. In 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' (2009), after he glimpses the truth about the ancient origins of the Transformers through a powerful vision sent to him by the Allspark, Sam once again finds himself the target of the evil Decepticons, who have returned to Earth under the command of the formidable Starscream (voice of Charles Adler). Joining the Autobots' mission to protect humankind is Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen), who forms an alliance with international armies for this second epic battle. In 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' (2011), when the Autobots discover that a Cybertronian spacecraft is hidden on the Moon, a race against the Decepticons ensues as both sides battle to reach it first. In 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' (2014), four years after the invasion of Chicago, mechanic and single parent Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) discovers what he believes to be a dilapidated truck and takes it home to repair. However, what he really has resting in his garage is a deactivated Optimus Prime. When government officials learn of the discovery they try to push humanitarian boundaries in the name of scientific development. Finally, in 'Transformers: The Last Knight' (2017), with the battle between the human race and the Transformers raging on, mechanic Cade Yeager forms an alliance with English Lord Sir Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins) in an attempt to figure out why the Transformers keep returning to Earth. Meanwhile, Autobots leader Optimus Prime learns he was responsible for the death of his home world Cybertron.
