Van Sant's debut feature is 'Mala Noche' (1985), a gritty slice-of-life drama made on a shoestring budget that set the template for his later work. Portland liquor store manager Walt (Tim Streeter), who is gay, encounters two handsome illegal Mexican immigrants. Besotted by the young Johnny (Doug Cooeyate), who speaks no English, Walt becomes the protector of the two boys, teaching them how to drive and trying to learn Spanish in order to get closer to them. With Johnny coldly indifferent to Walt's attentions, the desire appears to be strictly one-sided, but this doesn't prevent the friendship developing into one of mutual needs and desires. 'Paranoid Park' (2007) is a drama based on Blake Nelson's novel. The film follows 16-year-old skateboarder Alex (Gabe Nevins), who accidentally kills a security guard outside Paranoid Park, Portland's most infamous skateboarding park. When he decides to say nothing, he takes on a crushing burden of guilt - with huge ramifications.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

Sophie Quinton plays Isobelle, a student nurse who collapses on her way home from work after passing out inexplicably. After being treated by the mysterious and handsome Dr Philipp (Laurent Lucas), Isobelle begins to suspect that he has been tampering with the hospital's anaesthetic supplies, drugging female patients so that he can rape them. While Isobelle's boyfriend begins to suspect that she is having an affair with Philipp, Isobelle is determined to find out the truth. Before long, female patients and nurses are going missing from the hospital, but no one believes Isobelle's accusations about the sinister Dr Philipp. Even worse, her fainting spells are continuing, and before long Isobelle fears that she will end up on Dr Philipp's operating table.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

Three actors from a theatre troupe that has had its latest production, 'The Rite', banned after being charged with obscenity are each interrogated privately by a provincial magistrate. The trio are incestuously involved: Thea (Ingrid Thulin) is married to Hans (Gunnar Björnstrand) but is having an affair with Sebastian (Anders Ek), who killed her former husband in a crime of passion. The judge, playing on the insecurities and vanity of the three actors, brings to light their deepest, darkest secrets. Bergman deliberately does not reveal the obscene nature of the troupe's production, leaving the viewer to imagine for themselves what they consider obscenity to be.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD / Widescreen</i>

But before he is given the chance to compete he is kidnapped by the French Mafia and taken to the city of Belleville where his cycling skills are utilised by the gangsters. When she follows her grandson's trail to Belleville, Madame Souza enlists the help of 1930s jazz trio The Triplets of Belleville and her trusty dog Bruno to help her find Champion.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

Moving in together, the two women become lovers and decide to use their sexuality to advance their position in life, taking on jobs at a local management company and quickly sleeping their way up the corporate hierarchy. A new chance of happiness appears to open up for Seibei when a long-ago childhood love, Tomoe, moves back to the area after fleeing her brutish husband. To defend her honour, Seibei challenges her husband to a duel - which he wins, despite being armed only with a sharpened stick. Seibei is then asked if he wants to marry Tomoe, with whom he is desperately in love, but, tragically, the Samurai code of honour and his shame about his poverty-stricken status force him to refuse her.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>
