Los Angeles, 30 december 1999. Det är 48 timmar kvar till år 2000. Världen står på randen till ett nytt sekel. Lenny Nero är en fd polis som numera försörjer sig på att sälja illegala "clips", digitala inspelningar av verkliga händelser av vad andra människor känt och upplevt. Once ranked 11th in the world, he is now placed at 113th and it seems as if his career has come to an inglorious end. Winning a wildcard entry to the Wimbledon tournament seems like Peter's last chance, although when he has a chance encounter with Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst), a rising star in the women's game, he finds his luck beginning to change.
