Los Angeles, 30 december 1999. Det är 48 timmar kvar till år 2000. Världen står på randen till ett nytt sekel. Winning a wildcard entry to the Wimbledon tournament seems like Peter's last chance, although when he has a chance encounter with Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst), a rising star in the women's game, he finds his luck beginning to change.
