Jarrod (Daniel Martin) cares for his catatonic grandmother but runs afoul of Tummler and Solomon when he starts poisoning cats. As they find increasingly destructive ways to pass the time, for some of them there will be no escape. Her sister Helen (Lara Flynn Boyle) is receiving obscene phone calls from her neighbour Allen (Philip Seymour Hoffman) but when she rejects him, he turns his attention to Kristina (Camryn Manheim), a woman harbouring a grisly secret of her own. Years later, new racial problems surface between the Indian immigrants and the local community. This tension comes to a head when Mina (Choudhury), the daughter of the family, falls in love with Demetrius (Washington), an African American carpet cleaner. Private Mizushima (Shôji Yasui) is the harp player for Captain Inouye (Rentarô Mikuni)'s regiment. They have been fighting in Burma but when they come across a group of British soldiers, they learn that Japan has surrended and the war is over. A small band of Japanese soldiers are fighting nearby and a British captain asks Mizushima if he can convince them to surrender and save their lives. However, they refuse his entreaties and are killed in the ensuing attack. In the aftermath, Mizushima disguises himself as a Buddhist monk and embarks on a journey to promote peace whilst also burying the dead Japanese soldiers he encounters as he travels. Meanwhile Cop 663 (Tony Leung) has also recently broken up with his girlfriend. He meets Faye (Faye Wong) at a food stand he visits regularly and she soon falls for him. After finding out where he lives, she begins secretly cleaning and redecorating his apartment to help cheer him up. In eleventh century Japan, a noble family are rent asunder after the father, a local governor, attempts to treat peasants in a humane manner. The son Zushio (Hanayagi) and daughter Anju (Kagawa) are sold into slavery to evil bailiff Sansho (Shindo). Eventually, Zushio begins to adopt Sansho's barbaric ways, despite Anju's constant reminders of their exiled father's noble sacrifice.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / Restored</i>
