Wonderful compilation of studio tracks (not live) recorded in Stockholm by various mainstream jazz ensembles of Gullin's, from quartets to octets. Gullin really swings, his own compositions are excellent (plus there are 4 standards out of the 17 tracks) and the fine arrangements for the fine musicians are all smooth and tight. The quality of sound is superb - only the swishy tinge on the cymbals and high hat give away the age of the recordings, otherwise very warm and realistic.

For the third of five Lars Gullin albums compiled and released by Dragon in the mid-1980s, the classic baritonist is heard in an unusual setting on five numbers (plus an alternate take), being joined by a 16-voice choir group. The music, meant to be an extension on Charlie Parker's "Bird With Strings," has its interesting moments, but is not too essential. Otherwise, Gullin is heard on baritone and piano with a 1956 sextet and on two previously unreleased alternate takes from other sessions. All of the entries in this series are recommended to 1950s jazz collectors.

Musiken på denna CD utförs av en kortlivad grupp som levde kvar som ett ljust minne hos trombonisten Eje Thelin (1938-90). En kvintett som turnerade flitigt i Europa och delade konsert- och festivalestrader med storheter som Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus och Miles Davis. <br/>1964 fann dock Thelin det nödvändigt att förminska gruppen till trio, vilken vid några tillfällen utökades till kvartett med stjärnpianisten Bengt Hallberg (1932-2013).<br/> <br/>Denna CD med två live-inspelningar sattes samman med entusiastisk tillskyndan av Hallberg, trumslagaren Rune Carlsson (1940-2013) och basisten Roman Dylag.
