'Jazz maverick' Howard Moon (Julian Barratt) and self-styled 'King of the Mods' Vince Noir (Noel Fielding), two workers in a run-down zoo, are often called upon to put their jobs before their pride. That means dressing up as animals and sitting in cages because their boss, American entrepreneur Bob Fossil (Rich Fulcher), can't afford any real animals. In series 1, the lads have to battle mutant animals engineered in a secret laboratory underneath the zoo, as well as fight a kangaroo to raise money for their dilapidated workplace. A perilous journey to find the fabled Egg of Mantumba leads to a fight with the dreaded Black Frost, and when Howard is accidentally taken off to Monkey Hell, Vince has to journey through time and space to rescue him from the Ape of Death. Episodes comprise: 'Killeroo'; 'Mutants'; 'Bollo'; 'Tundra'; 'Jungle'; 'Charlie'; 'Electro' and 'Hitcher'. In series 2, the inept duo have formed their own band and manage to escape from the zoo, a situation that results in them confronting a deranged demonic granny, and trying to find the legendary Fountain of Youth to revive their flagging fortunes. In series 3, Howard and Vince are still in Dalston, working in Naboo (Michael Fielding)'s second hand shop, which gives Howard the chance to try and sell his esoteric jazz record and Vince the opportunity to try on some new wigs. The first series, 'The Blackadder' (1983), is set during the supposed reign of Richard IV (Brian Blessed). Prince Edmund (Rowan Atkinson) is the king's worthless slimy son who schemes to take the throne for himself, assisted by his idiotic sidekicks Percy (Tim McInnerny) and Baldrick (Tony Robinson). In the second series, 'Blackadder II' (1986), Edmund has been reduced to the rank of Lord in Elizabethan London, and seeks to insinuate himself into the Queen (Miranda Richardson)'s court, hindered as ever by Lord Percy and Baldrick, and the queen's chancellor, Lord Melchett (Stephen Fry). In the third series, 'Blackadder the Third' (1987), Edmund Blackadder is now butler to the moronic Prince George (Hugh Laurie), and in Regency London he finds himself crossing paths with figures such as Samuel Johnson (Robbie Coltrane), the elusive Scarlet Pimpernel (McInnerny), and the violent Duke of Wellington (Fry). The episodes are: 'Dish and Dishonesty', 'Ink and Incapability', 'Nob and Nobility', 'Sense and Senility', 'Amy and Amiability', and 'Duel and Duality'. In the fourth series, 'Blackadder Goes Forth' (1989), Edmund is now a captain in the British Army during the First World War, doing his best to avoid death at the hands of the Germans.
