Gleaning is the act of gathering the leftovers from a harvest after the main, profitable crop has been taken away by the farmer. As well as examining the lives of actual gleaners, who subsist from the remnants of modern agriculture, Varda visits those who live by more modern forms of gleaning. She meets people who mine household and commercial waste for a living, a man who has lived almost completely on discarded food for over a decade despite having a job and several other intriguing characters. The picture that emerges is of an alternative form of life to throwaway, consumerist culture and a value system based on essentials rather than excess.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

During the Cold War, the national team of the Soviet Union dominated the sport of ice hockey. Featuring interviews with the team's former players alongside archive footage of their heroics, the feature chronicles their success and how it was used as a symbol of national strength by their communist government. Following their success, the star players, led by captain Slava Fetisov, were recruited by the American National Hockey League, putting them on a collision course with their tyrannical coach Viktor Tikhonov and their country.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

When it was first released, 'Berlin', Reed's third solo outing, received a critical mauling, especially since it followed his earlier triumph, 'Transformer', with its hit single 'Walk On The Wild Side'. 'Berlin' is a tragic rock opera which deals with the drug-addled relationship of a doomed couple, and all its attendant depression and angst. The use of orchestral arrangements, horn sections and top session musicians alienated a large section of Reed's fanbase on release. However, over time the album has been re-evaluated, and is now regarded as one of Reed's best solo works, ranking 344 on 'Rolling Stone' magazine's 500 greatest albums of all-time.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

A dozen children aged 4-10 are brought together each day in a rural classroom and taught all their subjects by a single teacher, Monsieur Georges Lopez. A master of quiet authority, he patiently navigates the children towards adolesence, cooling down their arguments and listening to their problems, while trying to balance the varying needs of the disparate age groups for whom he must provide.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

A member of the French New Wave and married to fellow director Jacques Demy, Varda pioneered the 'cine-writing' style of filmmaking, carefully planning every aspect of the film in order to achieve the greatest emotional response. Taking a detour from the standard forms of storytelling, Varda relates her own story by employing a range of filmic techniques, including the re-staging of dramatic events in her life, and the use of symbolic visual sets that combine to flesh out her thoughts and concepts, while at the same time giving an insight into her creative processes through the years. Working for The Sunday Times from 1969 to 1984, McCullin gained a unique vantage point from which he could capture his images of war and suffering. Though his shots were shocking and gave a candid look at the effects of war on those involved, he went on to become one of the most acclaimed photojournalists of the 20th century. With contributions from previous Sunday Times editor Sir Harold Evans, and from the man himself, the film conveys the importance of the images McCullin has taken and the changes in photojournalism over the years.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

The photojournalist and former economist, known for his social documentary photography, discusses some of his most famous work including his images of the Serra Pelada mine included in his 1980s 'Workers' series and his 'Exodus' project that coincided with the Rwanda Civil War. The documentary also focuses on the key partnership he shares with his wife Lélia that has proved so vital to his life's work as well as documenting his most recent undertaking 'Genesis' in which he pays tribute to the planet's wildlife and natural beauty.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>
