När Takashi Miike släppte loss AUDITION i slutet av förra seklet var publiken totalt oförberedd. Från filmfestivalen i Rotterdam rapporterades om ett lämmeltåg av chockade åskådare som lämnade bion innan filmen var slut (och då missade de ändå det värsta!). Med ens hade en helt ny genre fötts, döpt av en sur kritiker till "torture porn", som ynglade av sig i extremskräck som Saw, Hostel och Miikes egen Ichi the Killer. På tidningarnas Bästa skräckfilms-listor ligger AUDITION ofta högt och bland fansen finns regissörer som Quentin Tarantino, Eli Roth och Rob Zombie.<br/><br/>AUDITION är historien om änklingen Shigeharu. För att hjälpa honom att hitta en ny hustru anordnar hans omoraliske vän, filmproducenten Yasuhisa, en fejkad audition. On the way to the yakuza disposal dump, Minami, nervous about the job ahead of him, hits the brakes too hard and kills Ozaki completely by accident. After he stops to find a telephone to report the incident to his boss, he returns to the car to find that Ozaki's body has vanished.
