Years later, Petrovich reflects on Reagan's life from his childhood in Illinois to his time as a lifeguard and actor and then his move into politics. After his first marriage to Jane Wyman (Mena Suvari) fails, he later meets and marries Nancy Davis (Penelope Ann Miller) and in 1981, he becomes President of the United States. Meanwhile, tensions escalate between America and the Soviet Union and Reagan publicly brands the country an evil empire.
