After serving together in World War II, Captain Bob Wallace (Crosby) and Private Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) team up and become successful performers and producers together. When they discover that their their former commander, General Thomas Waverly (Dean Jagger), who now runs a hotel in Vermot, is beset by financial difficulties due to the lack of snow at Christmas, they decide to stage a show there to draw in more guests and save his business. The cast also includes Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen.
