Dr. Robert Verne (Robert Foxworth) takes up a post with the Environmental Protection Agency to report on a dispute between a logging company and a Native American tribe who live by the banks of the Ossipee river. Verne's pregnant wife Maggie (Talia Shire) accompanies him in his new role. However, the Vernes grow increasingly concerned by the sight of damage to the local animal population.
