After her son is diagnosed with haemophilia, Alexandra turns to Grigori Rasputin (Tom Baker) for guidance but his behaviour causes problems for the Tsar. Increasing unrest amongst the Russian people and the advent of World War I culminate in revolution and Nicholas is forced to abdicate.
