Baltasar Kormákur

Efter att sedan länge ha lämnat sin brottsliga bana bakom sig tvingas Chris (Mark Wahlberg) tillbaka till det han kan bäst - smuggling. Men när det hela går över styr måste Chris ta till alla sina gamla knep för att kartlägga ett förrädiskt kriminellt nätverk av brutala knarkbaroner, korrupta poliser och skoningslösa torpeder.

Försäkringsagenten Holt får i uppdrag att åka till Hastings i Minnesota för att undersöka en mystisk bilolycka där man funnit en uppbränd kropp. Liket blir identifierat som den lokala småförbrytaren Kelvin Anderson och den höga livförsäkringen ska utbetalas till hans syster Isold, som lever ett fattigt liv med sin man Fred och deras son Thor. Men Holt får inte alla uppgifter att gå ihop och gräver djupare för att få svar på sina frågor. Det är något mystiskt över Kelvins död och inte blir Holts misstankar bättre av att Isold och Fred beter sig som om de har något att dölja.
