Jean-Luc (Berling), a highly successful doctor, believes his father Maurice (Michel Bouquet) to be dead. Maurice left him and his younger brother behind long ago and rarely kept in touch. However, when he reappears without warning, needing somewhere to stay, he moves into Jean-Luc's house.
