Unemployed after the end of WWII, former RAF pilot Clem Morgan (Howard) begins smuggling black market goods in coffins. When he discovers that the gang he works for have begun transporting drugs, he tries to quit but is instead framed for the murder of a policeman by gang boss Narcy (Griffith Jones). He is found guilty and sent to prison but after he escapes, he seeks to confront the men who betrayed him and prove his innocence to the police who are hot on his trail.
