'Tony Joe' was the third studio album for 'Swamp Fox' Tony Joe White, released in 1970, the year he toured Europe as support act for Creedence Clearwater Revival. It contained the singles "High Sheriff Of Calhoun Parrish", "Save Your Sugar For Me" and "Groupy Girl". Tony Joe White wrote some tremendously popular songs in the seventies and was very recognizable his unique deep bass voice and funky guitar Southern Gumbo style. Not many were as skilled in performing and songwriting as Tony Joe White with his fine knack for sharp storytelling lyrics. As a matter of fact his swamp songs proved surprisingly universal, and were recorded by everyone from Elvis Presley and Tina Turner to Dusty Springfield and Rory Gallagher.

Tony Joe White not only possesses an original, strong, intoxicating voice, he's a blistering singer-songwriter and musician with one foot in the blues and the other in the swamp, laying out one luscious number after another that will reach out and knock you over. Tony Joe White is a musician with an enormous fanbase among musicians of many different genres. This album features the single "Roosevelt And Ira Lee" and his evergreen "Rainy Night In Georgia", one of the most covered songs ever (a.o. by Ray Charles, Otis Rush, Randy Crawford, John Holt, The Gladiators). This 1973 album features one of Tony Joe's most beautiful and moving breaking up songs with "For Ol' Time Sake", in which you can feel the pain and the need of the one that's just been left behind, and the killer instrumental title track. There's the ballad, "Ol' Mother Earth", but it's the last track which blows in like a cold breeze off a lake. "Did Somebody Make A Fool Out Of You" is among his best ever examples of songwriting, singing and guitar playing. The centerpiece of the tune is an acoustic guitar solo that has never lost its power and depth. Co-produced by White and legendary Atlantic producer Tom Dowd 'Home Made Ice Cream' is very much a back porch acoustic affair and it's "Swampy".
