Nina Simone, född som Eunice Kathleen Waymon 21 februari 1933, död 21 april 2003, amerikansk sångerska, kompositör och pianist.
Nina Simone ville egentligen bli konsertpianist och studerade bland annat på den välkända musik- och teaterskolan Juilliard i New York, men blev istället känd som jazz- och bluesartist. Själv avskydde hon dessa kategoriseringar och tyckte att de oftast var ett uttryck för rasism. "Min musik är svart klassisk musik." Hennes egna stil fick sin början när hon av nödtvång tog arbete som barpianist och för att fylla en repertoar för långa arbetskvällar blandade hon sin bristande repertoar av populärmusik, med jazz, gospel och sitt klassiska kunnande. Resultatet blev ett av de mest säregna uttrycken inom jazzen. Hennes röst pendlade mellan obevekligt skarp och hård, till hjärtskärande och utelämnande. Hon var kontraalt och brydde sig inte alltid om att sjunga vackert, däremot var hon alltid uttrycksfull. Hennes pianospel var virtuost och aldrig slentrianmässigt och man kan också höra hennes klassiska skolning slå igenom i många av hennes tolkningar.
