Mattoid, The

It's been 10 years since Finnish troubadour, The Mattoid, returned to Scandinavia after a decade living as an "illegal alien" (stress the alien) in Music City. During his time in Nashville, he recorded 4 albums with Cleft and 1 of decidedly crooked covers for JEFF the Brotherhood imprint, Infinity Cat. 'Great Lovers' was recorded and mixed during Mattoid's ten year exile between Nashville, Helsinki and London. It serves as the final piece in a set of albums constituting a subsequent, catalog spanning comp for release in later 2022, along with first time pressings of his previous two full length albums on vinyl!

The debut album of Finnish freak folk rocker, The Mattoid. Having arrived in Nashville on 9/11 with trio, The Poppy Fields, the album evolved out of Ville Kiviniemi's well crafted song catalog and their numerous gigs across Nashville's open mics, house parties, clubs and dive bars. Moe Tucker style rhythms and the Mattoid's signature "sango" rhythm guitar, accompanied by keyboards of producer/engineer Loney John Hutchins and lead guitar of instrumentalist William Tyler. Tracks like "Party Time" and "Slackers Pain" have become well loved tunes in Mattoid's repertoire.

Successor EP to The Mattoid's warmly welcomed debut, "Hello." It includes outtakes such as, "Joy," and "Tinkli Vinkli" while offering new songs like the net-romance "Little Surfer" and, a fiercely grooving revamp of "Happiness" (featuring some of our favorite guitar work from instrumentalist, William Tyler).

His second LP, "The Glory Holy," finds The Mattoid rocking with his most solid lineup to date. This is the 'toids best attempt at becoming a Christian artist in Nashville. While not possessing any songs like "Party Time" this go around, Mattoid covers similar irreverent territory on numbers like "Burn and Rob," a Paleface cover, and offers a more focused thematic approach than his debut, "Hello." "The Glory Holy" was recorded in San Francisco at Tiny Telephone studios and is a leap forward in sophistication of sound for Mattoid's derranged gothic, lounge- rock!
