NY BOX MED DIGITALT RENOVERADE MÄSTERVERK AV AKIRA KUROSAWA<br/><br/>Efter succén med vår första Kurosawa-box, som fokuserade på mästerregissörens samurajepos, kommer snart box nr två. Även denna packad med idel mästerverk i digitalt renoverat skick.<br/><br/>RAN (1985). I 1500-talets Japan är Hidetora Ichimonji en av de mäktigaste klanledarna. En position han nått genom plundringar och mord. Nu är han gammal och lämnar över makten till sina söner Taro, Jiro och Sabura. Därmed hoppas han få slut på våldet. Men istället blir det precis tvärtom... Kurosawas sista riktigt storslagna film, byggd på Shakespeares "Kung Lear", som 1985 var den överlägset dyraste filmen i Japans historia. Vinnare av en Oscar (Bästa kostymer) och nominerad till ytterligare tre (regi, foto, scenografi).<br/><br/>KAGEMUSHA - SPÖKGENERALEN (1980). Under 1570-talet kämpar de japanska klanerna om herraväldet. Länsherren Shingen Takeda anställer en tjuv som sin dubbelgångare att användas för att vilseleda fienden. När Shingen dör får tjuven ta hans plats för att fienden fortfarande ska tro att han är i livet. Vasallerna har förordnat att han ska vara i tjänst under tre år framåt, men dubbelgångaren har helt andra planer... Producerad av de stora Kurosawa-fansen Francis Ford Coppola och George Lucas. Belönad med Guldpalmen i Cannes och nominerad till två Oscar (Bästa utländska film och Bästa scenografi).<br/><br/>DODES'KA-DEN (1970). Kurosawas kanske mest udda film, vilken utspelas i Tokyos slumkvarter och bland annat följer en ung man med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning som älskar spårvagnar och ständigt härmar deras ljud (som, enligt honom, låter "Dodes'ka-den"). Oscarnominerad för Bästa utländska film.<br/><br/>RÖDSKÄGG (1965). Under 1820-talet kommer en ung medicinare med dåligt humör till en landsortsstad för att börja sin praktik. Under stigande ilska inser han att han inte alls ska syssla med finare privatpraktik, utan istället är placerad på ett allmänt sjukhus för att ta hand om fattiga patienter. Kurosawas sista film med Toshiro Mifune. Efter ständiga gräl beslöt de att gå skilda vägar.<br/><br/>HIMMEL OCH HELVETE (1963). Toshiro Mifune i stark filmatisering av Ed McBain-deckaren "Hotet" från 1959. Den förmögne affärsmanen Kingo Gondo får veta att hans son har blivit kidnappad och gör sig redo att betala lösensumman. Men snart visar det sig att kidnapparna tagit fel barn. De har råkat ta chaufförens son. Kommer Gondo ändå att betala lösensumman?<br/><br/>IKIRU - ATT LEVA (1952). En åldrande byråkrat försöker finna en mening med livet efter att han fått reda på att han drabbats av obotlig cancer. En av Kurosawas mest älskade filmer. Belönad med Juryns specialpris i Berlin.

In 'Infernal Affairs' (2002) the cops and the Triads have something in common: each has a mole in their midst. Lau Kin Ming (Andy Lau) and Chen Ying Yan (Tony Leung) have been leading parallel lives: Ming is a Triad mole who has infiltrated the police department and Yan is an undercover cop who has, over the years, risen to a position of authority in the Triad gang. Both are dissatisfied with their position, wishing they could put their false lives behind them. Then one night the two men's paths finally cross during a police raid. Both the police and the Triads realise they have informers amongst them and the race begins for Ming and Yan to get out alive. 'Infernal Affairs 2' (2003) is a prequel, set ten years before the events of the original film. Yan (Shawn Yue) has just become an undercover cop in the Triads, while Ming (Edison Chen) is a new recruit to the police force. Bitter enemies in the first film, Inspector Wong (Anthony Wong) and Sam (Eric Tsang) are behaving like old friends, while Yan is embroiled in the family saga of a Triad cartel and Ming has developed an oedipal fixation on his boss's wife. As friendships fracture and foes join forces, nothing is as it first appears to be. Finally, in 'Infernal Affairs 3' (2003) Ming (Lau)'s career is on the slide following the bloody events of the first film, and he has been transferred to office work while he undergoes an investigation by internal affairs. Suspicious of new rising star Yeung (Leon Lai), Ming begins to investigate his background, convinced that he could be a double-agent working for the notorious Triad gangs. In 'Shikoku' (1999), Hinako (Yui Natsukawa) returns home to Shikoku and learns that her childhood friend Sayori (Chiaki Kuriyama) drowned several years ago. Sayori's mother Teruko (Toshie Negishi), a Shinto priestess, is acting strangely and as Hinako investigates, she learns about an ancient folk-tale that could bring her friend back to life. 'Isola: Multiple Personality Girl' (2000) is set in the aftermath of the Kobe Earthquake in 1995. Yukari Kamo (Yoshino Kimura) is a psychic who travels to the area to help survivors but when she meets Chihiro Moritani (Yû Kurosawa), a girl with dissociative identity disorder, she realises that the trauma Chihiro has experienced has caused something dangerous to unfurl in her mind. In 'Inugami' (2001) young schoolteacher Akira (Atsuro Watabe) falls in love with with a local papermaker, Miki (Yuki Amami). Miki's family have lived in the same village for 900 years and, unbeknownst to Akira, are the guardians of evil spirits known as inugami. With Miki distracted by her new love, the spirits are able to slip loose from her control and inflict terrible harm on those who challenge them. In 'St. John's Wort' (2001) Nami (Megumi Okina) has been creating artwork for a new video game based on images she's been seeing in her dreams. Accompanied by one of the game producers, Kohei (Yôichirô Saitô), she travels out to an abandoned house that she has recently inherited from her estranged father. As the pair explore the old mansion, filming their expedition with a digital camera and beaming the results back to their company as they go, they make a series of horrifying and grisly discoveries and also begin to realise that they themselves are being watched by a mysterious and malevolent presence through surveillance cameras in every room of the house. 'Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman' (2007) follows Kyoko Yamashita (Eriko Satô), a teacher investigating the disappearances of several children with help from her co-worker Noboru Matsuzaki (Haruhiko Katô). They soon come to realise that the spirit taking the children has ties to Noboru's own tragic past. In 'Persona' (2000) a bullied student adopts a new persona when he begins wearing a ceramic mask at school and soon, other students begin to follow his example. Using the anonymity bestowed by the masks, they act without fearing the consequences of their behaviour. Finally, 'Noroi: The Curse' (2005) follows paranormal researcher Masafumi Kobayashi (Jin Muraki) as he investigates the legend of an ancient demon. In 'The Most Terrible Time in My Life' (1993) Hama agrees to help a Taiwanese waiter who is looking for his missing brother but in the course of his investigation, he finds himself embroiled in a gang war. 'The Stairway to the Distant Past' (1995) sees Hama take on the mysterious White Man (Eiji Okada) who controls the Yokohama riverfront as he attempts to dismantle a smuggling operation. Finally, in 'The Trap' (1996), Hama hunts for a brutal serial killer but the case soon becomes deeply personal.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / Box Set (Limited Edition)</i>

'Pather Panchali' (1955) tells the story of a family living in the grip of poverty in a small Bengali village, focusing on the experiences of young boy Apu (Subir Bandopadhyay). 'Aparajito' (1956) sees Apu (Smaran Ghosal) move with his family to the busy city of Benares where they hope to build a new life after suffering a devastating family tragedy. But when Apu's father dies, the young man decides to head out on his own and attend college in Calcutta, leading to a growing estrangement between him and his widowed mother. Finally, in 'The World of Apu' (1959), the adult Apu (Soumitra Chatterjee) hopes to become a writer, but his lack of finances forces him to abandon his university studies. He meets old friend Pulu (Swapan Mukherjee) and together they travel to the wedding of Pulu's cousin, Aparna (Sharmila Tagore). When the wedding is cancelled, Apu agrees to marry Aparna to save her from ridicule. They return to his Calcutta apartment to start a new life and Apu comes to love his wife, but his happiness is soon shattered by a tragic turn of events.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / Box Set (Restored)</i>
