I 28 år har Teddy och Harriet Benjamin skämt bort sin dotter Judy, mer än så, de har överbeskyddat henne som om hon vore en känslig blomma! Idyllen blir mer än fullkomlig när Judy en dag gifter sig med en välbärgad, framgångsrik advokat. Den äktenskapliga lyckan blir dock mycket kort. Judys man dör på bröllopsnatten!
